Rubber Baby Buggy Bumpers!

The ‘sticky feet’ that we use in our Ultimate Useless Machines and kits are known as bumpers, and we get all our bumpers from Bumper Specialties Inc.

Not only is Bumper Specialties a valued supplier, but they are a big fan of the Machine and recently asked if it was OK to blog about us & our product.  I said sure, but only on one condition:  that I send them a free Machine.

And if you read the resulting post, you will understand that I wasn’t doing BS Inc. any favors by sending out the Machine.  Because if there ever was a ‘disruptive technology’ it would have be the Ultimate Useless Machine:

We can’t wait to get our hands on one of The Ultimate Useless Machines, but don’t expect to hear from us for a while once we do. We’ll be busy trying to keep that box open. Why would someone construct a  contraption whose only function is to turn itself off? We haven’t a clue. It’s maddening, but then again, that’s why it’s such a remarkably successful invention.

So thank you Gregg and all the wonderful folks at Bump Specialties Inc.  And sorry about the lost productivity and possible madness you will now have to deal with!

TechWorks Open House

The hacker space Saskatoon TechWorks will be holding an open house Saturday, August 25.  The event will take place from 1PM to 9PM at 220 20th St W, Saskatoon.

We at Frivolous Engineering are big supporters of the hacker space movement and want to help in any way we can.  We’ve sent a couple of free Ultimate Useless Machines for them to raffle off and some Ultimate Useless Kits for them to sell.

I encourage everyone in the Saskatoon area to attend this event and support TechWorks.  There will be live entertainment, free food & drink, and some very cool projects to check out.

Festival Sized Bug Zapping!

Eth0:2012 Summer, an outdoor high-tech geek conference in the Netherlands had a bug problem:

As the eth0 summer site is located in a forest next to a lake an unprecendeted amount of flying critters had made their way to the camp in search of blikenlights while in the process annoying the hackers. However, before the bugs where capable of mounting a propper attack, two (Eighdot, Sa007) of the visitors devised a plan to create the largest bug zapper ever seen.

As you can see in the video below, it’s putting an appreciable dent in the local flying insect population.
